Non-Profit Status

Village Tutors, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) organization, helping communities around the globe establish and run free tutoring programs.

Philosophy

Since the inception of the public school system, the expectation of what they will accomplish with regard to ‘parenting’ our children has evolved and increased dramatically. The Village Tutors model is based on the concept that community, not just the school system, supports education works outside of school to address the needs of our children. Tutoring needs to be supplied and supported by the whole community (businesses, service organizations, retired professionals, chambers, etc.) and not be tied to the school district, so that the community takes ownership to help children learn.

How We Got Our Start

In 2006, we began exploring ideas with the Enumclaw School District administration and local community members. Many meetings and countless hours of work and vision casting led the way for a ground swell of community and school support that enabled the communities of Enumclaw and Black Diamond to open the doors of their tutoring centers in the fall of 2007.

Our Success

As of May 2008, 143 students are registered with EBT. Word is spreading as evidenced by the steady increase in student registrations. EBT continues to have anywhere from 20 to 30 students at the Enumclaw center on any given Tuesday or Thursday evening. The best testimonials we have about the effectiveness of our program for students is the feedback we receive from parents.

Our Future

The goal is to have at least 5 additional comunities working on starting programs by the end of the 2008-09 school year.
